Roatan, a Caribbean Island, is situated about 40 miles (65 km) off the north coast of Honduras. Located between Utila and Guanaja, it is the largest of Honduras' Bay Islands. The island is supported by the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System and its land rises to a height of around 270 meters (890 ft) above sea level. Dive opportunities are provided by offshore reefs. Most of the infrastructure is in the island's western region. The island is 59 km (36.7 mi) long, 8 km (5 mile) wide, has an area of 83 km2 (32 sq mi), 154 km (95.7 mi) of shoreline, and a height of 221
m. (725.1 ft) La Ceiba and Roatán are separated by around 40 miles (60 kilometers).

Common Flight Routes to Roatan

Roatán is easily accessible from Houston, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, New York City (Newark International Airport), Minneapolis/St. Paul, San Salvador, and Milan, nonstop international flights arrive at the island of Roatans airport. Regional Flights are also available to Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, and Puerto Lempira (PEU) (SAP). International flights to Roatan also arrive on the island during the winter from Montreal and Toronto. Air Transat runs flights from mid-November to mid-April. Southwest Airlines followed closely after West Jet in starting service to the island.
Local Flights and Maritime Routes Within Roatan
The Galaxy Wave boat travels twice daily between Roatán and La Ceiba. Roatán, Utila, and La Ceiba are connected by the Utila Dream ferry twice per day. The Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport (RTB) on the island of Roatán is one of Honduras' five operational airports that can handle international air traffic. The other airports in Honduras are Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP) in San Pedro Sula and Toncontin International Airport (TGU) in Tegucigalpa, Comayagua's Palmerola International Airport (XPL) and La Ceiba's Goloson International Airport (LCE).
